The Chicago based band Sanctified Grumblers was formed in the Spring of 2009 when former Devil in a Woodpile front man Rick “Cookin” Sherry started writing songs and rehearsing with fellow Chi-town acoustic stalwart Eric Noden. The resulting material mixed the manic style of 1930’s jug band music with old-country and early jazz to create a good-time sonic ruckus. The band uses only acoustic instruments including steel guitar, washboard, foot-drum, banjo-guitar, clarinet, kazoo. sousaphone and upright bass. They possess enough foot-stomping acoustical power that they occasionally perform with no amplification at all. Sanctified Grumblers has two bass players each who give the music a unique twist. They perform with either Mike Hogg on the sousaphone or Beau Sample on the upright bass. Sanctified Grumblers first CD “no lie” will be available soon and features special guests Jim Becker (Califone, Iron & Wine), Mike Reed (People, Places and Things) and Tom V. Ray (bass player for Neko Case & Jakob Dylan)
